Duruj Passport · Account deletion
Delete your account & data
This page explains how to request deletion of your Duruj Passport (consumer mobile app) account and personal data — what is removed, what must be retained by law, and how long it takes.
Option 1 — in the app
Open Duruj Passport → Profile → Security settings → Deactivate account, and confirm with your password. Your login is disabled immediately.
Option 2 — by email
Email privacy@duruj.io from your registered email address with the subject “Delete my account”. We verify your identity before actioning the request.
What is deleted
- Your login and account access (sign-in is disabled).
- Your profile details — name, contact, employment and income information.
- App preferences and notification settings.
- Documents you uploaded to your Document Vault.
- Active data-sharing consents (lenders can no longer request your profile).
What is retained, and why
Duruj is a regulated credit-reference participant. Some records cannot be erased on request because the law requires us to keep them; deactivating your account disables access but does not purge this credit history.
- Credit-reference records
- Negative records ~7 years; positive records ~10 years, as required by the National Bank of Ethiopia Credit Reference Bureau Directive.
- Audit & compliance logs
- Records of access and decisions, kept for the regulatory retention period.
- Records under legal hold
- Anything subject to an active dispute, investigation, or legal obligation.
How long it takes
In-app deactivation is immediate. Email requests are actioned within 30 days of identity verification. Data outside the regulatory retention window is deleted; retained records are removed automatically when their retention period expires.
