Privacy Policy
DurujScore processes personal and financial data on behalf of lending institutions to produce explainable credit decision support. We process only data you or your lender have a lawful basis and consent to use.
- We collect identity, account, transaction and behavioural data through consented institutional and borrower channels.
- Data is used to compute credit readiness scores, reason codes and risk insights - never sold to third parties for advertising.
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is scoped to the institution that owns the relationship.
- You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data (see Consent & Data Subject Rights).
Data Protection (Proclamation No. 1321/2024)
We align our processing with Ethiopia's Personal Data Protection Proclamation No. 1321/2024 and applicable National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) directives.
- Lawful basis: we process personal data on the basis of consent, contract, or a legitimate institutional purpose permitted by law.
- Data minimisation: only data necessary for credit decision support is collected and retained.
- Purpose limitation: data is used only for the purposes disclosed at collection.
- Cross-border transfers follow the safeguards required by the Proclamation.
- A Data Protection point of contact is available at privacy@duruj.io for data subjects and regulators.
Consumer Rights
Borrowers (financial consumers) have rights protected under NBE financial consumer protection directives. DurujScore is built to make these rights practical, not theoretical.
- Right to transparency: you can see the factors and reason codes behind a score that affects you.
- Right to fair treatment: decisions are governed by the lender's policy with protected-attribute safeguards.
- Right to be informed: you are told what data is used and for what purpose.
- Right to redress: you can dispute information and raise a grievance (see below).
Credit Reporting (NBE)
Where credit information is shared, it is handled consistently with the National Bank of Ethiopia's credit reference and credit information framework.
- DurujScore is decision support - it complements, and does not replace, accredited credit bureaus.
- Credit information is accessed through lending institutions or other authorized channels for lending, account-management, portfolio-monitoring, dispute-resolution or compliance purposes.
- Credit information is shared only with consent, authorized purpose and the institution's lawful reporting obligations.
- You may request the credit information held about you and ask for inaccuracies to be corrected.
- Records of who accessed your information, and why, are retained in the audit trail.
Credit Information Usage
Credit information may only be accessed for a permitted credit purpose and by an authorized institution user or approved system integration.
- Permitted purposes include new credit applications, renewals, restructuring, portfolio review and account management.
- Every inquiry records institution, user or system, purpose, reason, timestamp, borrower reference and audit evidence.
- DurujScore does not support unrestricted browsing or bulk pulling of borrower credit data.
Consent Evidence
Borrower and guarantor consent must be captured and retained as evidence before credit information is shared or accessed.
- Consent records include version, text, date and time, channel, signature method, device information, IP address and institution requesting access.
- Borrower and guarantor signatures are retained where applicable.
- Consent history is auditable and revocation is preserved rather than overwritten.
Guarantor Rights
Guarantors are treated as credit participants with their own visibility, consent and dispute rights.
- Guarantors should be able to view guaranteed loans, exposure amount, default impact and consent history.
- Incorrect guarantor records can be disputed and routed to the responsible institution.
- Guarantor information is used only for authorized credit assessment and account-management purposes.
Reports & Retention
DurujScore supports borrower access to credit information and lifecycle controls for credit data retention.
- Borrowers may obtain one free credit report every 12 months where applicable.
- Positive credit information is retained for at least 10 years after settlement where required.
- Negative/default information is retained for no more than 7 years after settlement, subject to applicable law and regulator instructions.
- Automatic archival and deletion controls are tracked through audit evidence.
Consent & Data Subject Rights
Consent is time-bound, purpose-bound and revocable. The Duruj Passport lets you see and manage every consent you have granted.
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we process about you.
- Rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure: request deletion where there is no overriding legal or contractual obligation to retain it.
- Withdrawal: revoke a consent grant at any time through the Duruj Passport or your lender.
- Objection: object to specific processing where the law provides that right.
Grievance & Dispute Resolution
If you believe a decision used incorrect data or you have a complaint about how your data was handled, you can raise it and we will respond.
- Step 1: raise the dispute with your lending institution, who owns the credit relationship and decision.
- Step 2: DurujScore supports the institution with the audit trail, reason codes and data lineage needed to investigate.
- Step 3: unresolved matters can be escalated to the National Bank of Ethiopia's consumer protection channel.
- Contact grievance@duruj.io to be directed to the right institution and process.
Fair Lending
DurujScore enforces fairness controls so that protected attributes cannot quietly drive a credit decision.
- Rules based on gender, religion, ethnicity or disability cannot be saved without a documented justification and compliance approval.
- Primary risk scoring uses explainable tree models with reason codes - no black-box outputs are deployable.
- The lender's credit committee remains the authoritative decision-maker; the platform provides governed support.
